Good work for apprenticeships

Back to news

After initially trying out plumbing as a potential career and then moving into retail, Harpreet Bhakar from Shirley, Southampton discovered an advertisement for an apprenticeship to be an HGV Technician with DAF specialist Adams Morey. Harpreet embarked upon the 3 year course and has just graduated along with other Adams Morey apprentices.

Harpreet’s father was a long distance lorry driver and as a boy he had shown interest in the heavy goods vehicles. Harpreet says he enjoyed his apprenticeship, being supported by the technician team at the Redbridge depot. He says: “They are a good group of lads, there is plenty of good humour in the workshop. People are prepared to help each other and I do the same. I had a mentor for the first two years and as my skills and knowledge have improved I was able to become more independent. Now I am delighted to become a full time technician.

“I attended the graduation ceremony for all DAF apprentices from across the UK at the Celtic Manor in Wales. My parents and younger brother were able to be there and I am sure they are very proud of my achievement.”

In his free time Harpreet enjoys swimming and socialising with his friends.
