Commitment Quality Value
DAF Trucks’ has picked-up the Employer Partner of the Year award at last week’s Student Awards Evening at City of Bristol College. The accolade was presented in recognition of the partnership between the college and DAF Trucks’ own Apprentice Programme – an association which has stood for 20-years and has helped over 1800 students embark upon a wide range of careers with market leading DAF Trucks and throughout the DAF Dealer network.
There are currently 289 Heavy Vehicle Technician Apprentices enrolled on the DAF Trucks Apprentice Programme and taking instruction at City of Bristol College; benefiting from a recently updated state-of the-art workshop facilities in which three additional DAF vehicles (15 in total) were supplied specifically for training.
DAF Trucks has developed and enhanced its Apprentice Programme with the inclusion of training programmes for Sales, Parts and Customer Service. These provide on-the-job training, bespoke eLearning modules and face-to-face training in the workplace or at DAF Trucks’ learning facilities in Thame. Apprentices are supported by a team of training and coaching professionals throughout.
There are currently over 70 Apprentices on Non-Technical Programmes, split between the Parts, Sales and Customer Service Programmes. Notably, a full 20% of all DAF Technicians were trained through the DAF Trucks Apprentice Programme.
Adam Russell, newly-appointed Business Services Manager at DAF Trucks, attended the Awards Evening. He said, “Naturally, we’re thrilled to have been recognised for all our hard work; and that includes the dedication and drive from our Apprentices, many of whom are away from home for the first time and are entering a challenging and highly competitive working environment.
“The staff at City of Bristol College and our training provider Skillnet are helping us produce the next generation of DAF Technicians and Aftersales staff,” he said, “so, their role is absolutely key to the future success of DAF Trucks.” He added, “The DAF Trucks Apprentice Programme is now an integral part of the business, and its success is thanks in no small part to my predecessor, Tony Shepherd, who must take credit for his tireless work over many years in developing a training portfolio which continues to benefit so many young professionals.”
The DAF Trucks Apprentice Programme is delivered to the DAF Dealer network in tandem with training and recruitment provider, Skillnet. The company has been recognised recently as a ‘Good Provider’ by Ofsted, and their support alongside City of Bristol College has enabled DAF Trucks to recently celebrate further awards including The Princess Royal Training Award for outstanding training and the Automotive Global Award. DAF Trucks has also appeared in the National Apprenticeship Service’s Top 100 Employers list no fewer than five times in the last seven years.
